Shadow Cards were developed as a tool for mental and spiritual
rejuvenation through creative self-expression by Deni-Lynn Thomas and
Stephen Ihli. They consist of pairs of cards - one with words and the
other with images. When a pair is chosen randomly, the power of
association is stimulated. The cards access the unconscious by
exercising individual interpretation. In other words, they trigger our
intuition through recognition of metaphors in coincidence. They help us
look at the different angles of any situation, circumstance or feeling.
No matter what is happening or has happened in your life, it can be
turned into an opportunity for growth and learning. My job is being
your guide through this journey of self discovery.
The session begins with your writing down pertinent questions, such as
the following. This helps you to focus on the situation at hand for
which you want clarification.
* What do I need to be clear about?
* How can I get clear about it?
* What am I learning from this situation?
* How can I take the next step?
* What am I willing to give myself?
* What am I not?
* How is my unwillingness a gift?
The cards are placed upside down on the table and you pull one word
card and one image card from the deck. If you feel uncomfortable about
doing this, I can tune into your energy and pick the cards for you. You
then turn the cards over simultaneously. Immediately your brain takes
off and busily attaches meaning. The combination of the word
(interpreted by the left brain) and the image (interpreted by the right
brain) triggers thoughts and emotions from the subconscious.

There
is no wrong way to interpret the cards. It is very similar to
interpreting poetry. They are representative of the metaphors in life.
Our own past experiences bring meaning to the cards - so a particular
word/picture combination would mean one thing to you and something
entirely different to another person. Also, the same combination might
have very different meanings at different times in your life.
To
conclude, the Shadow Cards do not predict the future. They indicate how
you think or feel about the future. They do not tell you if you should
stay in a relationship. They offer what you already know about the
relationship but may not be willing to admit to yourself. They are
remarkable tools for helping us to know ourselves better.

Now, please go on and read about flower essences. When I do a session for someone, I always combine Shadow Card Therapy with Flower Essence Therapy. This way a person's personal growth can continue long after the session is over.
